We worked together with associations of e-waste recyclers, providing them with technical expertise, trainings and tools.
The recyclers use basic manual techniques (burning, breaking, unscrewing, etc.) to salvage recyclable products from old computer, tv and hifi materials (e-waste). Some techniques can be dangerous for health (toxic smokes and liquids, broken pieces…), in particular because they work mainly at home, on the ground, with children around. We worked together with them to find practical solutions to improve the safety of their practices, for themselves and their families. The pictures below show examples of their work and some of the tools we created with them (sensitisation to the dangers, solid workbenches, face and hands protection, work with local health facilities). The project was managed and supported by Médecins du Monde.
