In the beautiful and mountainous province of Daykundi, central Afghanistan, we managed Public Health Services in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. In the frame of the National Health System (BPHS and EPHS), we supported the provision of health care at all levels, from the central Provincial Hospital to the small local clinics. This included some construction and renovation work, trainings for the medical staff, running the logistical life of the facilities, providing drugs and materials, as well as the management of HR, Finance and security. We arrived on the project in the middle of winter and the facilities were in poor condition. It proved to be a demanding task for each team member, in particular considering the isolation of the facilities, it was nevertheless a very enriching and inspiring experience.

The pictures below date back to 2012, so I will not go into the details of the project, but they give an idea of the local situation at the time (winter to summer). They show the flight to Nili (the very isolated provincial capital), the different buildings and facilities of the Provincial Hospital, and some surrounding country side.

This was a Première Urgence – Aide Médicale Internationale project, together with the Ministry of Health.
